Summary

Khai Diep has no feelings。 Well, he feels irritation when people move his things or contentment when ledgers balance down to the penny, but not big, important emotions—like grief。 And love。 He thinks he’s defective。 His family knows better—that his autism means he just processes emotions differently。 When he steadfastly avoids relationships, his mother takes matters into her own hands and returns to Vietnam to find him the perfect bride。

As a mixed-race girl living in the slums of Ho Chi Minh City, Esme Tran has always felt out of place。 When the opportunity arises to come to America and meet a potential husband, she can’t turn it down, thinking this could be the break her family needs。 Seducing Khai, however, doesn’t go as planned。 Esme’s lessons in love seem to be working…but only on herself。 She’s hopelessly smitten with a man who’s convinced he can never return her affection。

With Esme’s time in the United States dwindling, Khai is forced to understand he’s been wrong all along。 And there’s more than one way to love。

This one was better than the first one。 I liked the characters more and I liked the whole story and plot more。

Helen escreve tão bem! Esme é uma mulher forte, decidida, esforçada e ainda sim, carrega alegria e sorrisos。 Khai conquista o leitor de uma forma doce, sincera。 Ler as notas da autora no fim do livro só engrandece a obra。

I love it!!! OmG, it was such a great book。 I enjoyed Esme & Khai journey and of course I love Quan~Tapi dibandingin buku 1, buku 2 ini kalah manis。 But again, aku nggak keberatan karena Helen Hoang nulisnya ngalirrr suka banget woi 😭😭😭

I keep reading this author’s books and for some reason I do not vibe with them。 There were a lot of elements of this I liked — the family dynamics, Esme, who is absolutely amazing, and her educational ARC。 But I have to be honest — some plot points didn’t make sense to me。 I also didn’t believe the main couple。 Like。 There were times where they seemed to have loads of chemistry and times where they seemed like strangers。 I guess that’s the point! But when they have sex for the first time I’m like ??? You both have been wanting this for a while, what, I know I was told that but didn’t really feel it when it came to Khai。 I think this could be my own ignorance, too。 Khai is Autistic and doesn’t express his emotions in ways that I’d expect from neurotypical heroes in romance novels, so I’m trying to be reflective and question if that’s why。 There was a lot I liked about him, too — how caring he was, his reading glasses, the stubbornness for no reason lol。 But he didn’t feel like a cohesive character。 Sometimes he felt like two different people。 This is also a romance pet peeve but there was a lot of “she’s MINE” in this that I couldn’t stand。 There’s a part where the brother asks if the MC will “give” him the girl。。。 it serves a purpose but sort of comes up again。 Jealousy can be hot but I think it’s a fine line where it felt like annoying that this guy would get mad at his brother and there was that weird aspect of their dynamic where they seemed to fight over Esme。 I just。 We are in 2021 like!!!! Chill!!!! 。。。more

Absolutely as cute as the first book of the series! I cannot wait to read about Quan in the next book。 Khai and My were EVERYTHING and cute as hell。 Cheesy and entertaining with a splash of spice。

Real score: 3。89。 I liked Esme a lot, except for the Esme thing。 I’m not sure why, in the whole lack of communication thing that is fundamental to romance to a degree, the whole lack of communication thing annoys me so much。 It’s a conundrum。 I really should journal。 I have too many unanswered questions。

This was a classic romance story with an important twist。 Khai is a good looking, successful accountant in California who struggles with emotions and relationships。 In a desperate act to foist romance upon him, his mother brings Esme from Vietnam to try to woe her son。 The novel centers on their efforts to bridge their cultural and emotional divide, which is done with both tenderness and humor。 I appreciated that Hoang created a romantic character who lives with autism。 This is perspective too r This was a classic romance story with an important twist。 Khai is a good looking, successful accountant in California who struggles with emotions and relationships。 In a desperate act to foist romance upon him, his mother brings Esme from Vietnam to try to woe her son。 The novel centers on their efforts to bridge their cultural and emotional divide, which is done with both tenderness and humor。 I appreciated that Hoang created a romantic character who lives with autism。 This is perspective too rarely included in mainstream literature。 。。。more

I didn't like this as much as I liked The Kiss Quotient, but I still thought it was very enjoyable。 I like the strong families that Hoang writes around her characters。 The miscommunication parts of this story are quite frustrating, but also understandable due to Khai's neurodiversity。 The one thing that made me slightly uncomfortable was the treatment of Esme's relationship with her daughter。 It often felt like she was an afterthought, except when it served the plot (like a nightmare about her l I didn't like this as much as I liked The Kiss Quotient, but I still thought it was very enjoyable。 I like the strong families that Hoang writes around her characters。 The miscommunication parts of this story are quite frustrating, but also understandable due to Khai's neurodiversity。 The one thing that made me slightly uncomfortable was the treatment of Esme's relationship with her daughter。 It often felt like she was an afterthought, except when it served the plot (like a nightmare about her leading to Esme in Khai's bed)。 I definitely will read more Hoang though, because there is a lot here that is good。 。。。more

cute story and I liked the representation of someone coming to a new country/culture/language and her bravery to do something she never thought she could based on her status back at home, as well as a man's perspective with autism (similar to the women's perspective in the 1st book)-- (spoilers)I just wish that the "reveal" of him being autistic occurred earlier。 How did no one, especially Quan, not think to tell her sooner than the week of the wedding that Khai is autistic, and what that means cute story and I liked the representation of someone coming to a new country/culture/language and her bravery to do something she never thought she could based on her status back at home, as well as a man's perspective with autism (similar to the women's perspective in the 1st book)-- (spoilers)I just wish that the "reveal" of him being autistic occurred earlier。 How did no one, especially Quan, not think to tell her sooner than the week of the wedding that Khai is autistic, and what that means in how he is compared to a "normal" way of thinking。 obviously it was part of the story to have those 2 main boundaries and created the plot line but it just bothered me that so many problems could've been solved earlier lol 。。。more

I was slightly bummed when I started reading this book and realized it wasn’t a continuation of Michael and Stellas story, but after reading a few chapters I was hooked。 Loved the new story line and how it tied in with the first book。 Now onto the 3rd! 😁

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 More like a 3。5 but I'm rounding up。 I liked the first book in the series a bit more, but this was still enjoyable。 It was a bit unbelievable at times (like Esme earning her GED in a matter of weeks after struggling to even understand English on arrival?) This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 4。5 stars。 I really enjoyed the characters in this book, moreso than the first book in the series。 The plot itself might have been a little cliché, but I found it a fun story to follow, and I appreciated seeing such a strong woman as the main character。 The only thing I was mildly confused about near the end was why Esme was willing to marry Kuan wirhout love but wasn't willing to do the same for Kai, although it might have been because she loved Kai and didn't want a one-sided love whereas with 4。5 stars。 I really enjoyed the characters in this book, moreso than the first book in the series。 The plot itself might have been a little cliché, but I found it a fun story to follow, and I appreciated seeing such a strong woman as the main character。 The only thing I was mildly confused about near the end was why Esme was willing to marry Kuan wirhout love but wasn't willing to do the same for Kai, although it might have been because she loved Kai and didn't want a one-sided love whereas with Kuan there was no love? Not sure, just found that part mildly confusing and out a slight damper on the last couple of chapters for me。 But overall, a great read。 。。。more

It was eh。 Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t bad but it just didn’t give what it was meant to give you know ? 😂😭I had really high hopes because the Kiss quotient was SO good but unfortunately this just wasn’t it。

The Kiss Quotient was too good, and this one didn't reach my expectation。 However, the Heart Principle made it up for me。 Love the series though!! I loved how much chemistry the two mains in this had, as well as some of the side characters。 I also love the way Helen Hoang writes diverse characters。 I did find the main relationship problems in this to be a bit dragged out but that could just be my preference。

I personally am one for using contemporary romance as a means of escapism from the stress and loneliness of my life, and boy did this book provide that escapism。 This was a one day read for me, and I enjoyed every moment。 As someone on the spectrum, Khai was relatable in various ways, and as I also struggle with embracing emotion, this book made me feel all of them。 I had to close it to squeal in excitement, I’d gasp out loud, find myself smiling while reading。 I very much enjoyed it!
